The
Performance Classification Committee was created in 1978 by
Decree-Law no.
15/78/M, of May 20. From 1979 until 1993, it functioned under the auspices of
the Education Department, under the terms of
Decree-Law no. 27-F/79/M, of
September 28, and then the Committee passed to the Cultural Institute of Macao,
under the terms of
Decree-Law no. 40/93/M, of August 23.
Duties:
The
Performance Classification Committee is composed of representatives of different
government bodies and figures from Macao society. Its duty is to classify,
according to objective and customary criteria, public performances and
entertainment with respect to time and age limits for admission, as well as to
perform other functions and duties that are attributed by law. Public
performances can take place in the Territory only after age-group classification
by the Committee.
Classification Criteria:
Under
the legislation in force, the Committee carries out age-group classification of
performances according to the following criteria:
Group
A ��For all;
Group B ��Not advisable for 13 years
old and under;
Group C ��Not advisable for 18 years
old and under, and forbidden for 13 years old and under;
Group D ��Forbidden for 18 years old
and under;
Pornography ��Subject to the
provisions of Article 3 of
Law no. 10/78/M, of July 8.
In
addition to the performance itself, any posters, advertisements and photographs
to be displayed at the performance venue must also be submitted to the
Performance Classification Committee for classification purposes.
Procedure for performance classification
request:
1. The
performance organisers must ask the Performance Classification Committee for an
age-group classification at least 72 hours in advance of the performance.
2. Complete the CommitteeY
classification request form.
3. Submit items relating to the
performance, such as photographs, posters, plot summary, and audio-visual
materials.
4. If the performance content is
altered in such a way as to affect a classification already given, the
organisers must request a new classification for the performance.
