This photo taken on March 26, 2007 shows a view
of the minarets in Herat province, western Afghanistan. In order to preserve
the historic minarets, the local authorities permanently closed down the road
passing through the monuments for traffic on Tuesday. Local officials said that
the little attention paid to preserve the historic sites has been the main reason
for the government's failure to register Herat city as cultural heritage in
